Bigger than this

It's been hot and steamy this week, and really has started to feel like summer. We've been doing summer things too--taking a road trip to Idlewild with Grandpa, spending the afternoon on the Slip 'n' Slide in the backyard, consuming our weight in ice cream.

The boys had a great time at Idlewild, as usual--Grady especially. Three is just the right age for that place. He loved all the rides that were just his size, he loved the ball pit, he loved the water park. It reminded me and my dad a lot of the first year we took Evan there, when he was three, and I'm glad both boys got to go at that age. Ev had a great time too, but it's easy to see that he's getting to be a bigger kid--he definitely got more fun out of the big bumper cars and the water stuff.

They are getting bigger, but my boys are still pretty small. We had their yearly checkups this week too, and they are very healthy, but not very large. Evan is 47" tall (I felt sure he would have broken 4 feet by now) and 48 pounds (which I think was a high estimate, because he's usually about 46 on our home scale). Grady is 36" tall and 31 pounds. By comparison, Evan also weighed 31 pounds at age 3, but he was two inches taller. Evan seems to be about average for his age, while Grady is still tiny. Several times in recent weeks I've had moms approach me at the playground and look shocked when I tell them he's three--because they thought he was closer in age to their 18 month olds. Whatever. He's got personality. And he's healthy, and Evan is healthy, and they are doing what they are supposed to be doing so I'm a lucky girl.
